Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering benefits students in many ways.  It provides an opportunity for students to make a difference in not only their lives, but the lives of others.  Volunteering can provide the student a sense of purpose and a sense of community.  It also helps students meet new people and increase their social skills.  Volunteering can improve their self-esteem, teach valuable skills, and most importantly, provide a future job prospect!

At R5 High School, students can earn elective credit depending on the volunteer placement and number of hours they work.  These placement opportunities include volunteering at:

  • Non-profit organizations
  • Animal shelters
  • Licensed Day Care facilities
  • Community based organizations
  • Schools and educational institutions
  • Health care facilities
  • And others….

The nature and intent of volunteering is to develop the skill and attribute of “professionalism” within the student, so things like “volunteering” to babysit your brother and sister or relatives would not count.  We are happy to help assist you in possible volunteering opportunities.

REQUIREMENTS

1. Students are required to get prior approval from the R5 Counseling Office or from the R5 Principal or Assistant Principal.
2. Document hours worked using the R5 Student Log sheet, which needs to be signed by the supervisor and R5 staff.
3. Turn in the log sheet to the student's Advisor for approval. Upon approval, the student's Advisor will will submit credit (60 logged hrs = .5 elective credit) to the Registrar.
4. A copy of the log sheet will be scanned and uploaded into students Synergy documents.
